What are the advantages of using steel pipe towers?
Many countries in the world began to apply steel pipe profiles to tower structures when developing UHV transmission lines, and steel pipe towers with steel pipes as the main material of the tower body appeared. In Japan, almost all 1000kV UHV lines and iron towers use steel pipe towers, and their research on the design of steel poles is very thorough.
Drawing on foreign experience, domestic steel pipe profiles have also been applied in 500kV double-circuit iron towers and four-circuit iron towers on the same tower, which shows its good performance and benefits. Its advantages are as follows:
One is that it can reduce the wind pressure of the tower body (the shape factor of the component, the round tube is almost twice that of the angle steel);
2. In the case of the same cross-sectional area, the radius of gyration of the round pipe is about 20% larger than that of the angle steel;
The third is to improve the structural bearing capacity.
Generally speaking, the steel pipe tower is 10%-20% less than the angle steel tower; at the same time, it can reduce the number of poles, shorten the tower period, and make the structure easy to diversify. However, the use of steel pipes also has disadvantages such as limited steel pipe profiles, poor appearance quality, and high prices. At the same time, the structure of the joint between the steel pipes is complicated, and the processing efficiency is low.
